Bad weather sees 500 shelter in Aberdeen airport overnight

The severe winter weather hitting Scotland saw ice-bound Aberdeen Airport's main terminal stay open overnight to accommodate 500 stranded passengers. Hundreds of passengers were forced to spend the night at the airport because de-icing equipment failed.
A spokesman for Aberdeen Airport said: 'It was a gesture to help those who could not get away and didn't have anywhere to go.' Things were returning to normal yesterday, although flights to Orkney, and Shetland were delayed indefinitely. Flights were also affected at Inverness Airport.
