No plans for drop off fees

Aberdeen Airport has no plans to introduce a charge for drivers dropping off passengers, the Press & Journal reports. The airport confirmed it would not follow the example of fellow BAA airport Edinburgh, where motorists will be charged £1 to drop off at the terminal building from October.
The announcement that Edinburgh is to charge a fee to drop off or pick up near the terminal sparked accusations that it was profiteering and 'just plain mean'. However, management said the charge would help balance the cost of facilities with their usage, pointing out that they had spent £4m upgrading the terminal forecourt since the Glasgow Airport terror attack, and so called 'kiss and fly' passengers (those dropped off or collected by friends or relatives) previously paid nothing towards the cost of these facilities.
An Aberdeen Airport spokeswoman told the newspaper the decision to charge at Edinburgh Airport had been made by local management and not at a BAA corporate level. She said: ‘It is not something we have ever considered here.'
However, with Cardiff and Belfast International airports set to introduce a charge to drop off or pick up from next week, following the lead of Luton and Newcastle who already charge, we fear it is only a matter of time before the charge is made at all major airports.
