Flyglobespan scrap winter routes over charges
04.09.07
Flyglobespan is axing scores of flights from Aberdeen Airport. The Scottish low-cost airline has announced that it is dropping most of its autumn and winter routes because it says charges to use the airport are too high.
A spokesman for the airline said that it had complained that charges at Aberdeen mean it cannot afford to base a plane at the airport during the autumn and winter months. A spokeswoman said: 'Regrettably we have been unable to reach an agreement with BAA after lengthy discussions.'
'There is a lot of pressure on our autumn and winter flights when prices are lower. Therefore we are forced to stop our autumn and winter services from November 1, except those from Tenerife and Malaga.'
The decision means that flights to Alicante, Cyprus, Faro, Madeira, Palma and Prague will all be scrapped in the airline's autumn / winter schedule, which runs from November 1 to March 31. Flights will continue to Tenerife and Malaga, using planes based at airports elsewhere.
Passengers who have already booked flights on the affected routes have been offered a full refund, or 50% off a flight (not including airport tax) with the airline to the same destination from a different airport.
