Forecourt / car park project to start next week

Security measures at Aberdeen Airport are to be improved by a £2 million forecourt and short term car parking project, which will start next week. BAA say the changes will ‘transform’ the terminal forecourt, improve security measures and provide more convenient access for the public, but have warned that it will lead to some disruption whilst the work takes place - throughout the summer peak.
The £2 million project includes a new dedicated access lane for taxis and service buses and a new drop-off car park for passengers, while improvements to existing security arrangements will be introduced including replacing the current temporary bollards with permanent ones. The project will also include measures to reduce CO2 emissions, and will see the replacement of existing lighting with low-energy, high-efficiency LED fittings. Work will begin on Monday and it is expected to take 18 weeks.
Aberdeen Airport customer services director, Will Dougherty, said: 'When the work is complete, the forecourt will meet the needs of our passengers and represent a significant improvement on the existing arrangements. Unfortunately a degree of disruption is inevitable, particularly in the area currently used as the drop-off area and short term car park.’
