Flyglobespan drop Canaries route - after 2 weeks
06.01.09
Scottish budget airline Flyglobespan has dropped its fourth route from Aberdeen Airport in as many months, the Press & Journal reports. The airline has blamed poor demand for the cancellation of its weekly service to Gran Canaria, which only launched on December 22.
In November Flyglobespan dropped its flights between Aberdeen and Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt after selling only 200 seats. Two months earlier its Lanzarote and Barcelona routes were also cancelled.
A Flyglobespan spokesman confirmed the airline had ‘reluctantly’ cancelled the route due to a lack of demand, but insisted it was doing all it could to keep passenger inconvenience to a minimum. Passengers booked on the flights have been offered alternative seats on flights from Glasgow or Edinburgh (with free airport parking) or a full refund.
The spokesman told the Press & Journal: ‘Lack of uptake is a consistent factor in all winter programmes and the credit crunch seems to have made it worse in this case. We are committed to bringing as many routes as possible to Aberdeen but cannot justify loss-making programmes in this financial climate.’
