Six oil workers appeared in court yesterday following disturbances on a flight to Aberdeen Airport. The men were arrested at the airport on Sunday evening after their private charter flight landed following reports of several disturbances on the journey.
The Boeing 737 was chartered from Gatwick based airline Astraeus by oil company Petrolia Drilling. It had flown 55 workers back from Las Palmas in Spain, where they are reported to have been working on an oil rig.
Members of the plane's crew alerted the authorities, reporting that some of the passengers had been badly behaved and were drinking their own alcohol. At one point, the captain was preparing to divert to Manchester Airport. It eventually landed at Aberdeen at 19:05 where it was met by police.
Ryan Massie, 24, Hugh MacLeod, 23, Gary Moar, 40, Ryan Gunn, 34, Craig Cameron, 33, and Andrew Morrisey, 29, appeared at Aberdeen Sherriff Court on Monday. All denied charges of being drunk on board an aircraft and failing to obey pilot orders. They were released from Aberdeen Sherriff Court and will face trial in February.
