Flyglobespan criticised over new flight announcement

Flyglobespan, the airline that announced it was axing 174 winter flights from Aberdeen Airport this week, said yesterday that is adding a new service from the airport to Jersey next summer. Passengers who had their flights cancelled said that the timing of the new flight announcement was 'insensitive', whilst our contact at Jersey Airport said that there was some confusion over the flight times.
Flyglobespan said earlier this week that a row over charges at Aberdeen Airport, combined with lower average fares in the winter, the short runway - which is due to be extended - and a small population made it difficult to run services from Aberdeen outside of the busy summer period. It cancelled all but two of its routes this winter - a total of 174 flights - ruining the travel plans of hundreds of passengers.
Yesterday it announced a new route between Aberdeen and Jersey for next summer. The weekly flight - to operate each Tuesday - will be launched on July 1 next year and will run for 13 week. However, some locals expressed their displeasure with the company, saying that the timing of the announcement was 'insensitive' and that they had 'lost confidence' in the airline.
Flight times for the new route have still to be announced, and a contact at Jersey Airport tells us that an airport staff member came across the press release and noticed that the flight times were outside Jersey opening times (arriving in Jersey at 21:30 and departing at 22:00, even though Jersey closes at 21:30 each night until 07:00 the following day).
Our contact tells us: 'The staff member passed it on to management who thought Flyglobespan were having a laugh. This was followed up and Flyglobespan apoligsed for the timings; they are rearranging the schedule and it looks like the flight will be arriving around 08:00.'
This is the second route into Jersey for Flyglobespan, who launched a Saturday flight between the airport and Durham Tees Valley this year. This service has proved so popular that it will move to a twice weekly flight next summer and the period of operation will be extended.
