Plane de-icing problem caused flight emergency
08.10.09
A flight from Aberdeen Airport to the Faroe Islands was forced to land at Wick because it had not been properly de-iced before takeoff, an official report has said. The Air Accident Investigation Branch said vital systems on the Jetstream 41 became jammed with ice in April last year.
Fire, police, ambulance, and the coastguard were alerted after the pilot reported having difficulty with his elevator controls. The Eastern Airways aircraft, with 3 crew and 10 passengers on board, was diverted to Wick, and landed safely at 09:23 on 9 April 2008 after being escorted by RAF Tornados.
