BAA Scottish airports report growth

Scotlands three biggest airports enjoyed a record number of passengers flying abroad to the sun or going on winter city breaks last month. The figures released by BAA Scotland, who own and operate Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports, also show the number of passengers flying long-haul has increased to a new record for the time of year.
Aberdeen Airport was the fastest growing of the three airports, handling 243,471 passengers in January, a 12.7% rise on the previous year. In the 12 months to January it handled 3.2 million passengers, a rise of 10.7%.
Scotland's busiest airport was Edinburgh, with 566,277 passengers, an increase of 2.5%. In the year to January, the airport handled 8.6 million passengers, up 1.8%.
At Glasgow Airport passenger numbers rose 1.6% to 534,302. In the year to January, the airport handled 8.8 million passengers, an increase of 0.4% on the previous year.
Overall at the three airports passengers grew by 3.8% to 1,344,050. Long haul flights to and from Scotland grew by 31% to 50,672, with Dubai as the most popular destination, followed by New York and Atlanta.
International passengers grew by 12.2%, but domestic passengers were down slightly due to the threat of industrial action on BA flights from Scotland.
