Aberdeen airport runway expansion backed by planners
09.11.06
Planners are set to recommend a proposed 300m extension to the runway at Aberdeen Airport be approved. Management at the airport believe that the extension will open up new business and tourist destinations and could create hundreds of jobs.
Aberdeen City Council's head of planning, Dr Margaret Bochel, states in her report on the extension that it is needed for a 'dynamic local economy'. She adds that objections on the grounds of the impact on climate change could not be used to refuse a planning application.
Aberdeen Airport has welcomed news that planners are to recommend approval. The City Council's planning committee meets next Thursday (16 November) to review the application.
