New jobs for most of Servisair's baggage handlers
09.12.07
More than half of the 93 baggage handling jobs axed at Aberdeen Airport have been saved. 48 former Servisair staff have switched to Flight Support, which started operations at the airport today. Most of the remaining 45 former Servisair staff already have new jobs, either with other handling firms or elsewhere within the airport.
Servisair announced last month it was withdrawing its ground-handling operation, including check-in and baggage-handling operations, at the airport, having only launched during the summer after BA pulled out. Press reports suggest that the company was struggling to retain staff.
Isle of Man-based Flight Support is investing £500,000 in its Aberdeen base, turning around more than 60 flights per week. It will look after the UK's largest low cost carriers, easyJet and Ryanair, as well as Flybe, the largest regional low-cost carrier, at Aberdeen airport. The other Servisair's contracts have been picked up by existing operators at the hub.
