Flyglobespan axe Egypt route - before it takes off
11.11.08
Flyglobespan is axing another international route from Aberdeen Airport, this time before it even took off. A weekly service to the resort of Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt was due to start on December 17, but it has been dropped due to lack of demand. It is reported that only around 200 seats had been sold on the route.
A spokesman for the Scottish budget airline said: ‘We are sorry that Aberdeen travellers could not support this Egyptian route in the manner that they have our other destinations. But, in today’s financial climate, we can not sustain a loss-making service and, with regret, we have had to withdraw it.’
The move means that Flyglobespan has axed three Aberdeen routes in the last three months – the others its flights to Barcelona and Lanzarote. However, the spokesman said that its other Aberdeen routes were going well and that Flyglobespan was ‘very pleased’ with the operation. Flyglobespan was offering a full refund to people who had made bookings, or seats on its Edinburgh service to the resort.
