New car park planned near airport
12.05.10
A planning application has been lodged for a £13m car park for a park-and-ride scheme near Aberdeen Airport. It is designed to ease congestion for thousands of visitors and commuters who travel in to the city each day.
Aberdeen City Council is seeking detailed consent for a 999 space car park on farmland to the south of the Argyll Road and Dyce Drive junction. It will include the construction of a dual-carriageway road between the junctions of Argyll Road, Dyce Drive and the A96 Aberdeen-Inverness road, where it will also link to the city’s proposed bypass.
If approved by councillors (the planning application is being submitted by the council, so this seems likely !) and the Government, work on the site could begin in 2012, with completion in 2013. Given that it is so close to the airport, but is not designed for airport passengers, it will be interesting to see how they keep fliers out, even those just flying out and back in the same day. It is bound to be cheaper than short term airport parking.
