Airport reports first growth for almost 3 years
13.02.11
Aberdeen Airport saw an end to nearly 3 years of declining passenger numbers in January. Almost 200,000 people passed through its terminal in January, a 9.1% increase on the same period last year. It is the first time the airport’s passenger figures have increased since April 2008, although heavy snow in January 2010 did make the figures from a year ago lower than expected.
The airport’s managing director, Derek Provan, said: ‘These figures must be viewed in the context of the severe weather in January of last year, with flights more badly affected by winter weather than January 2011. However, we are seeing a gradual increase in confidence from some airlines and continue to work with them to deliver growth at Aberdeen Airport this year.’
Edinburgh and Glasgow also saw growth in passengers, with rises of 13.6% and 8% respectively.
