Loganair sign franchise agreement with Flybe

Scottish airline Loganair announced today that it has signed a franchise agreement with Regional airline Flybe that will see it take to the skies in Flybe's colours at the start of the 2008 winter season. The agreement takes effect on October 26, when Loganair's current franchise agreement operating with British Airways ends.
The deal comes with the promise of more UK and European flight connections for passengers in Scotland and will bring the benefits of the low cost model to thousands. Flybe chairman and chief executive, Jim French, said: 'This is first time a low cost airline has entered into this type of franchise arrangement. It is an exciting development in the evolution of the low cost model and one which we see as a valid strategic option for the future.'
'It is also a win-win for both airlines. We will see our presence in the key Scottish market greatly enhanced and will benefit from increased passengers into our existing network. And the alliance is a major opportunity for Loganair to bring the recognised brand of Europe's largest regional airline and the benefits of the low cost model to its passengers.'
Loganair's chairman, Scott Grier, said it was an exciting time for his firm's employees and a 'significant step' for the company. He added: 'The networks of our airlines are complementary and this deal will give our customers a greater choice of UK and European connections.'
The franchise will not affect the 40% core fares discount given to passengers from Orkney, Shetland, the Western Isles, Islay, Jura, Caithness and North West Sutherland. Tickets for flights under the new franchise agreement - 3.2 million seats - will go on sale through flybe.com from June this year.
Loganair flies from Highlands and Islands airports to Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
