A 43 year-old Nigerian man who was arrested for attempting to smuggle over 2 kgs of cocaine into Scotland via Aberdeen Airport has been sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in jail at Edinburgh High Court.
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officers detained Cosmos Eke Okoronkwo, an electronics trader from Lagos, Nigeria, in December last year. He had arrived on a flight from Amsterdam, having begun his journey in Nigeria. Cocaine with a street value of £287,950 was concealed inside his baggage.
Mr. Okoronkwo pleaded guilty to the charges. His sentence has been backdated to December 3 2007, for time spent on remand. In addition, £930 seized from him at Aberdeen Airport has been forfeited to the Crown under proceeds of crime rules.
