Airport blames industry woes for passenger drop
14.09.08
Aberdeen Airport has blamed record fuel costs and the credit crunch for its forth straight month of passenger declines. The figures complete a disappointing summer for the airport, which has seen a consistent decline in passengers compared with last year.
Passengers at the hub were down 5.4% in August compared with the same month last year. The airport, which handled 299,197 passengers, saw a decline of 8.4% in domestic passengers, with an increase of 1.4% in international passengers and a 20.2% rise in charter traffic.
The figures also show a sharper decline in passengers compared with July, where they fell by 2.6%. Aberdeen Airport managing director Kevin Brown said: ‘Tough economic conditions continue to affect both airlines and the travelling public.'
