Airport car park reaches new heights

Aberdeen Airport celebrated its new parking deck reaching its highest point this week. The traditional ‘topping out’ ceremony was performed by Managing Director Kevin Brown and Stefan Staack, project manager for contractors Goldbeck.
The new £5 million car park is due to open in September, with work on schedule. One of the most striking elements of the project is the speed at which it has been going up. The build time is around a quarter of the standard time for a project of this scale.
Mr Brown explained: ‘A lot of planning went on behind the scenes in advance of work starting on-site to make sure it is completed as soon as possible. Some parts are being constructed off-site and then lifted into position here, and there is also a huge team working on the project to help keep it to schedule.’
The car park deck will create 500 additional short stay car park spaces on two extra floors in front of the terminal building. This has already been identified as some of the most affordable short stay parking in the country.
