Airport walkway opened
17.06.09
Scottish Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson opened a £2.3m walkway at Aberdeen Airport yesterday. The walkway, an extension to the terminal, is aimed at improving the travel experience for passengers by providing covered and segregated corridors for arrivals and departures.
The walkway's completion marked the first phase of redevelopment at the airport. Phases 2 and 3 of the redevelopment will involve an extension of the international arrivals hall, with improvements in passport control, baggage reclaim and greater floor space to reduce congestion. There is also ongoing work in the short-stay car park where a multi-storey car park is being built.
Opening the walkway and unveiling a plaque, Mr Stevenson said: ‘Aberdeen Airport is a very important part of the local transport infrastructure. It is used by a large number of businesses, and if the airport wasn’t here, much of our business wouldn’t be here either.’
‘The £2.3m that we’ve seen being invested in the new walkway will certainly avoid the wintry draft that people can feel when they come off planes. I think it is an excellent step forward for the airport.’
