Aberdeen passengers down 4.7%

Bad weather and the cancellation of a flight to Gatwick has been blamed for a drop in passenger numbers at Aberdeen Airport last month. Strong winds and thick fog led to the cancellation of dozens of flights in January. The crash landing at Heathrow and a decline in demand for charter holiday flights also contributed to the fall.
The airport handled 232,093 passengers in January, down 4.7% on the previous year. The north east hub was dealt a blow as BA withdrew one of its flagship Gatwick services. Rival airline flybe will launch new flights to the London airport next month, however.
In the 12 months to the end of January Aberdeen Airport had 3,422,000 passengers, up 6.6 percent on the previous period.
