Suspect bag causes flight delay
24.05.08
Passengers were waiting on the tarmac at Aberdeen Airport for more than 3 hours last night because a pilot feared a suspect bag was on board the aircraft. The 19:10 bmibaby flight from Aberdeen to Birmingham did not take off until 22:30, and only then after passengers were forced to get off the plane and identify their bags.
A failure in Aberdeen Airport’s check-in system resulted in passengers being checked on for the flight manually. The passengers boarded 20 minutes late, but once on board there was confusion about how many people and bags there should be. As a result, the pilot refused to take off.
The aircraft finally headed for Birmingham at 22:30 after all the luggage was put back on board the plane. A spokesman for bmibaby said: ‘There was a baggage and head-count discrepancy. For security reasons there had to be a manual check.’
