BMI axe Birmingham route
25.09.10
BMI will axe its flights between Aberdeen and Birmingham from October 30 because the route has not ‘performed as expected’, the Press & Journal reports. The airline currently operates 11 flights a week in each direction on the route. Competitor Flybe immediately moved to fill the gap by adding four flights per week to its schedule on the route.
A spokeswoman for BMI said passengers booked on flights after October 29 will be refunded or rescheduled. She said: ‘The route has not performed as expected, and with no sign the situation is improving, BMI has taken the difficult decision to cancel this service.’ The spokeswoman added the cancellation means the airline will add a sixth weekly rotation to its service between Aberdeen and Manchester, ‘enabling us to meet the demand for seats during the peak afternoon period’.
