'Drunk' cabin crew member fined; loses job

An air stewardess who had been out drinking with the captain and first office of the plane she was working on hours before she was found too drunk to fly was fined £400 and has lost her job.
Monika Lukomska, 24, of Liss, Hampshire, was caught over the limit on August 3 after a night out with her bmi colleagues in Aberdeen. The Polish stewardess had been due to work on the Faro-bound flight from Aberdeen Airport but was arrested when airport staff suspected she had been drinking. The 140 passengers taking the flight suffered a 6 hour delay whist a new crew was flown to the airport to operate the flight.
Ms Lukomska was arrested and taken off the plane because she was over the 9 microgram alcohol limit for flying. Appearing in court, she admitted carrying out her duties with 57 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of blood – more than 6 times the legal limit for her job and almost 3 times the limit for driving a car.
She was fined £400 when she appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court after admitting that she had shared 2 bottles of wine and drank cocktails with the first officer and captain of the plane the night before she was due to fly.
Ms Lukomska has lost her job as a result of the incident. A bmi spokesman said: ‘We operate a zero-tolerance policy in terms of alcohol consumption. The pilot and co-pilot were both breathalysed and provided negative specimens.'
