Flybe wants to take over the Gatwick route
28.11.07
Flybe, Europe's largest regional low cost airline, wants to take over the route between Aberdeen Airport and Gatwick that BA will give up next spring, the BBC reports. The airline told BBC Scotland that Gatwick was an important destination.
Flybe wants to fill the gap left by BA, which announced it is pulling out of the route from the end of March when it move flights to Houston and Dallas from Gatwick to Heathrow. The airline will continue to operate flights between Aberdeen and Heathrow.
Flybe - which announced yesterday that it is to begin services from Aberdeen to Southampton and Jersey next spring - has opened negotiations with BAA about taking over the route.
Ironically, when Flybe took over BA's loss making regional flights arm, BA Connect, in March, BA chose to take over its flights terminating at Heathrow, Gatwick and London City airports. Had it left the route within BA Connect, Flybe would already be operating it.
