Airport taxi drivers seek to block city rivals
29.02.08
Aberdeen Airport taxi drivers have threatened the police and Aberdeen City Council with legal action over claims that they are letting city taxi drivers work from the airport, in breach of licensing rules.
The 140 drivers that operate from the airport say that the police, the council's legal department and the licensing board's hackney sergeant have been turning a blind eye to the problem for years. The drivers have now signed a letter, which is being sent to the organisations threatening to take the matter to the fiscal if nothing is done.
Under the terms of their licence, the city drivers are not allowed to pick up at the airport. But the airport taxi drivers say that this happens every day. Michael Leiper, one of the airport taxi drivers, said: ‘The threat is action if they do not enforce the airport licence restriction.’
