Man fined over drunken airport antics

A man with a fear of flying was fined after he got drunk to try to cope with a flight and yelled abuse at staff and passengers after he landed at Aberdeen Airport on Sunday.
Adam Williamson, 56, of Springbank Terrace, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, was so ‘tanked up’ that he could not walk when he got off the plane. When staff tried to help him, he pushed them away and swore at them, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard yesterday. He admitted conducting himself in a disorderly manner, shouting, swearing and committing a breach of the peace at the airport.
Fiscal depute John Richardson said a passenger services agent went to help Mr Williamson, who was having difficulty walking and smelled strongly of alcohol, then he got off a flight. Mr Williamson shouted and swore at her. This unruly behaviour continued into the arrivals hall where there were a number of passengers including women with small children.
Defence agent Stuart Beveridge said Mr Williamson was ‘very embarrassed and ashamed’. His client, who works on an offshore supply boat, was ‘terrified of flying’ and got ‘tanked up’ to help him through it. Sheriff James Hendry fined him £160.
